Negative aspects of Beauty standards in India

NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF BEAUTY STANDARDS IN INDIA

  • what are the today`s beauty standards in India?

Today’s beauty standards say that women are expected to wear makeup in their daily lives, work out at the gym, stay skinny with curves in the right places, and be young. A men should have 6 feet height should have six pack abs always be in suits. However, what makes today different from the past is that we can also show our uniqueness, as society has become more inclusive. These trends are all influenced by history and technological developments that we’re about to tell you all about.

  • Beauty standards in India

talking about color differences in India,  If an Indian girl has white skin, she is automatically considered attractive even if her face isn’t that good. This is Indian beauty standards for you. that doesn`t apply for all over India but if we see many places men or boy consider a white girl as beautiful rather than black. I don`t even understand what`s wrong with peoples if a boy is rich he never agree to married a black girl maybe agree to pale color girl, his own color is black or maybe have some issues but he is rich so want white girl that`s some bullshit. mostly it`s happens in north west India, south Indian people accept all color in human and black color is normal but if your color is white and live in Sothern India you consider more beautiful. No matter how beautiful you are, if you are one shade darker than the average looking girl next to you, Indians won’t even consider your beauty and it`s truth.

if we talk about body or physical attractiveness , Physical attractiveness is the degree to which a person's physical features are considered aesthetically pleasing or beautiful. The term often implies sexual attractiveness or desirability, but can also be distinct from either. There are many factors which influence one person's attraction to another, with physical aspects being one of them. Physical attraction itself includes universal perceptions common to all human cultures such as facial symmetry, sociocultural dependent attributes and personal preferences unique to a particular individual. people should take care body, a healthy body can make you happy and a good lifestyle but according to beauty standards in india or worldwide for men you should tall you should have a six pack abs( it`s good to go gym or make a good physique but that`s didn`t mean everyone should go) if you want to go in army height must be tall if 1 inch difference in your height in physical exam you eliminated already maybe you have good fit body or physique but heights also matter. some girls don`t even consider you as a friend you should tall or smart.
women`s body should slim and should have big butt or small waist, if you are beautiful but have small height or not a body like actress or model maybe you consider different from societal norms for body. women should have a movement pattern walk like a model or actress so you will consider attractive.

it`s good to have a good body or good physique but not everyone should follow those norms. some people like the way are they look but society don`t accept that`s make them unconfident and low self-esteem. everyone is not like you should look like this or that many people accept you as you are but some exception make it worse. even some big influencer like actress model, actor or whatever they influence you should eat this you should clean your face than you consider beautiful or attractive( people should care about their body or skin but some have natural spots or something) some models promote adds like creams which make you fair, this bullshit influence some are in a very wrong way.

  • Social media in India
social media take a important role in everyone`s life.

So I followed a tag to know what is trending. I found this song by Yo Yo honey Singh for which people were making reels videos showing transformations.

The song says don’t tear the letters I write, don’t look at other people and don’t do drugs. After which they show transformation of the person.

It is depicted that first the person was not so desirable but after little makeup or whitening they became very attractive (I don’t know what’s going on in their head).

So again dark skin is not good looking.

here some screenshot-

So where do we stand as a society when 48k -75k people support this?

I don’t know why we think it is funny and not think about our fellow Indians who might get offended or feel inferior.

it`s not in just India,  around world people do this things and consider as big influencer.

A negative body image can cause unrealistic expectations of how your body should look and could lead to unhealthy behaviors, like disordered eating. A small 2018 study found a correlation between time spent on social media, negative body image, and disordered eating.

  • Advertisements in India related beauty standards
talk about big example fair n lovely beauty cream which make you fair if your dark this cream make you fair and your skin will change from dark to white, gimme a break!! what they want to influence through this that you are not beautiful, dark color is not good you should fair than consider beautiful. actress Yami gautami is brand ambassador she has fair skin she is good but she is big influence which affect people many fans of her maybe follow her, maybe many are not fair through this advertisement she be like be a fair skin human or you would consider `ugly`.

Not just yami also sharukh khan well known actor in worldwide once promote such products men fair cream and many was influence they consider themselves ugly or buy this so called cream which just make them more dull or have side-effects.

advertisement like kurkure, maggies (which harm), masala which promote by models or actor, actress which they didn`t use but promote which make other people to buy and eat then got some proples which we can`t said those are their mistakes, peoples are also blind they bought and ruin their health. eat healthy many promote healthy foods as well, promote some face wash that`s clean the oily skin or clean the face or having  healthy skin.

  • positive aspects of beauty standards
When people think of the effects of social media and beauty standards, they most often instantly think about the negative impacts.  Personally, I also initially think about the negative aspects, such as the use of Photoshop and people editing their photos to look “flawless”, or social media influencers using their platforms to promote beauty or health products.  This is an important topic in today’s society because many people are exposed to social media, especially the younger generations. The content and constant use of social media will affect a person’s view on themselves, and what they might consider beautiful. For example, if one is only exposed to Victoria Secret Model type of representation in the media, they might believe that those are the standards of beauty.  All of these issues can take a toll on an individual’s self esteem, especially if they are exposed to it on a daily basis.

  • my experience
After sharing all the things in this blogs if i talk about myself i was gone through with related situation where i was considered fat ugly or unattractive. i was born with a healthy body, yeah i was fat. yeah i had some differences. while talking about my own past experience when i was in school my classmates used to taunt me "mote kitna khaata h, tu kuch nhi krr skta mota" at that time i felt unconfident and low self esteem. can`t talk infront of peoples because they didn`t accepted me the way i was because according to them physical appearance matter a lot where they had a biased type thinking a boy like me consider ugly, not beautiful they were not aware the beauty doesn`t have a single definition but not everyone are same my family always stand for me and that give me power to keep going in life. through this story i want to tell there a very beauty standard effects in our society.
